This last still is from a cute Merrie Melodies cartoon titled, "Slick Hare" from 1947...check it out!

Some of these other clips come from a fantastic cartoon titled, "Hollywood Steps Out" created in 1941 and features cartoon versions of too many oldie stars to keep track of. You can catch bits and pieces of it on YouTube.

The most creative cartoon goes to Merrie Melodies', "Coo Coo Nut Grove" from 1936. Each oldie star is either made to look silly or drawn as an animal with a funny name. This isn't the Cocoanut Grove! Band leader Ben Bernie is now Ben Birdie, Kat Hepburn is a horse named Ms. Heartburn, and Clark Gable claps with his ears instead of his hands. This cartoon is a must see!

If you ever read anything I write you will know my detestation for Marilyn Monroe. I avoid her. With that said I managed to live 31 years without seeing this picture. For a while I was proud of it. But somehow (and by somehow I mean while filling up my queue I got lazy) this flick made it though. Final options: this film is adorable because of men in drag and two; she still bugs.

Jack and Tony are band members who get gigs at speak easies and are always broke. After a bust during a show and some bad hands made at betting, the boys are in serious need for some cash. Things turn for the worse when the boys are witnesses to a mob hit, and now the bad guys are after them to knock them off too! After much searing they find only job available: playing instruments as chicks in an all gal band. The men put on the drag.

Before they know it, they leave town and are one of the girls. On the train to Florida for the 3 week long gig they meet Sugar, played by Marilyn, who doesn't seem to be acting much because she is playing a dumb blonde who makes bad decisions. Jack falls for Sugar and has a private party in his sleeping car.

When the word gets out that the girls have hooch, the whole train joins in!

This scene is super cute, and I would be interested to know how they fit everyone it that tight space! Tony decides to get the ball rolling and pulls out his best Cary Grant impersonation to win a date with Sugar. He pretends he is a rich, boat owning bachelor who can't find love. Sugar buys it.

With the help of Jack's new boyfriend, yes boyfriend, Tony gets Sugar on top of him. Naturally it didn't take long.

Jack has a man in his life, rich cupid type Osgood (Joe E. Brown) who wines and dines Jack while Tony sneaks on to his yacht.

After making her walk of shame from the boat, Sugar can't wait to get back to the hotel and tell the "girls" all about it!

I'm easy!

Things are going great until the mob boys catch up with them and learn about their cross dressing antics! Their only choice is get out of town. But how will Tony break the news to Sugar? What about their gig and the cash that they so desperately need? What will Tony do if he can't see Sugar in her "naked" dress?

The ending is cute with Jack breaking the news to Osgood that he is a man.

This film was Billy Wilder's first comedy feature. Marilyn had extreme difficulties and in some cases needed 40 plus takes for 3 worded lines. She showed up late and pissed off the crew to the point where Wilder didn't invite her to the wrap party.

Like many other Oscar nerds, I woke up extra early to hear the nominations for the Academy Awards. As I looked through the list, I was a bit disappointed. I mean, the expected were nominated, but it just seemed so uneventful. No surprises. I feel a few were snubbed (Leo for J. Edgar, and Ryan for Ides) but it felt very choreographed. As of a few years ago, the academy went from it's regular 5 best pic nods and went back to the oldie tradition of 10. Being that I try to watch every film nominated, this makes my job so much harder. Here are is the list for best picture:

"Too Many Girls" 1940

"Too Many Girls" stars Lucille Ball as Consuelo, a rich bitch who decides to go to college. Father is worried she will get into trouble, so he hires four football stars to act as bodyguards and keep an eye on her. Connie's college of choice? Why, Pottawatomie of course!

When Desi first sees Lucy in the film. He is blown away!

As the boys head to college, they quickly learn that the school is in debt and won't reopen until they get some cash. The boys put their pay together and bail the school out. Song and dance follows and the men are instantly popular with the ladies!

Don't worry gals, the new students will help!

The contact for the boys says no broads and no funny business. Clint realizes what a hottie Connie is and finds it hard to resist his orders. Connie still doesn't know that the boys are there because of her, let alone watching her every move.

Meanwhile, Desi (Manuelito)blows off his orders and gets busy with the ladies. There is a funny scene where he sucks face with a gal trying to guess her lipstick brand!

I want Ann Miller's skirt!

Pottawatomie's football team sucks and the all Americans can't resist the urge to join the team. Pottawatomie soon becomes the best team around! Trouble is, Clint starts to get love crazy and can't concentrate on the field. The boys try to get him to snap out of it.

Connie finds out the truth behind Clint and the boy's reason for being at school and she is furious. She insists they leave town immediately and miss the final game. When the school hears about this they literally send out a lynch mob to get them back.

What about the big game? Will Clint ever win his girl back?

This film is cute, but in no way resembles "college". While the student body was dancing in unison I turned to the fiancee and asked him why my college experience didn't include choreographed song and dance. This is also the film debut for Desi, and the film where they iconic pair first met and fell in love. Ahhh...

Oscar Season Is Upon Us!

Here's a fact you probably didn't know about me...I am obsessed with the Oscars. Not the, "I love her dress who is she wearing" type, but the, "Sorry I can't attend your Oscar party because it will be distracting" type. It's a sport, and as of 5:30 am tomorrow, the game will begin. So I apologize if you notice a shift in topic her at The Affair, because if any new films are any good these days, they are most likely nominated.

"Flying Down To Rio"

This interesting film stars Dolores del Rio, Gene Raymond, Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers. Gene plays Roger, who is a playboy/aviator/band leader who gets fresh with the ladies in the crowd so much that his band is always being fired from gigs. He spots some fresh meat in the crowd and is quickly smitten.

Even Fred and Ginger had 4th and 5th billing at one point!

That fresh meat is Belinha (Dolores) who is already engaged but still looking for some action. She plays hard to get.

Roger gets fired again, but just in time to pick up a job in Rio! At the same time, he hears that new wanna-be honey Belinha is flying home to Rio and needs a ride. Roger tricks her into going with him only to have a crash landing on what they think is a deserted island. Luck Roger! He quickly finds a way to "break" the plane even more so he can have some sexy time with Belinha on the beach.

They smooch, then fight, then realize they are not as deserted as they think, and Belinha gets a ride home without Roger.

In Rio, Roger tells band mates that he fancies his new gal.

(BTW everything about this picture is amazing.)

The hotel gets ready. The band is supposed to play a new show that will get the hotel rolling. Only one problem...they aren't allowed to get a permit for the show and can't go through with it! Fred and Ginger put their heads together with a plan.

And Fred throws in some dance numbers.

Like they say in Hollywood...er..Rio, the show must go on! The band decides to rig tons of planes with scantily clad broads and have the planes fly around for hotel guests to see. Yeah, that sounds reasonable.

This scene is strange and awesome at the same time. Minutes go by with shots of girls, some wearing barely nothing, hoisted up on planes holding on for dear life as the "fly" through the air.

Cue in the giant fan...

Guests seem mildly amused and Belinha's fiancee is not happy. He knows about Roger and is convinced to get her married right away to avoid any further complications. But what will happen to Roger and Belinha? Will the airplane trick get the band fired or re-hired?

This is the first pairing of Fred and Ginger. Fred was hesitant about their next film not wanting to be known as a partner act, especially since he danced with his sister for some many years. He decided to go through with it and the rest is history.

"The Grass Is Greener"

This odd film, directed by one of my faves, Stanley Donen stars Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr, Robert Mitchum, and Jean Simmons.

Cary plays Victor, who runs tours for out of towners through his castle of a house.

His wife Hilary (Deborah) is the lady of the castle and sells mushrooms. They seem to be happy and in love until Charles (Robert)"accidentally" stumbles in on Hilary. 15 minutes later they are in love. Does this guy have charm or what?

Hilary must go to London to get her hair done. She'll stay the night at frenamie Hattie's house. Really she is going to stay with new boyfriend Charles. Hilary doesn't think twice about not covering her bases, especially when her haircut trip turns into a mini vaycay. Hattie has the hots for Victor and goes to see how he is.

Victor knows what's up but doesn't want to make a move as to bother the two love birds. He acts weirdly calm and collected as Hattie tries to get him to forget about his cheating wife and more about the potential of them shacking up.

Nothing says "sexy" like matching jeweled earrings and headband.

Victor decides to call up Charles and invite him to stay the weekend. He should pick up Hilary since she is in town with Hattie. Riiiight. Stanley splits the screen as we see the guys think each other are chumps and the gals think the men are nuts. What is Victor up to?

As everyone arrives, the love triangle party can start.

Talk about awkward! Can you spot the white elephant?

Finally the cat is out of the bag and Victor tells Charles that if he accepts a dueling challenge he can have the old broad. Butler Sellers helps out.

After shots are fired, Hilary comes out to see what the men are up to and finally has time to chat with her husband about her new beau. What happens after that? Is the grass really greener on the other side? You must watch this one to find out!

This film has some cute scenes and interesting 60's wardrobe. Moray Watson plays the butler and he is charming at that. Not sure who OK-ed the script on this one, as any husband would not act this way in real life if his woman was stepping out on him. And it seemed highly unlikely that a happily married woman would dump her husband over a brief conversation with another guy. The fiancee called her a hooker when they kissed! And lets me honest, who would dump Cary Grant for Robert Mitchum? Sorry, Robert.

"The Long, Long Trailer"

In 1953 Lucy and Desi made a cute film called "The Long, Long Trailer" about a newlywed couple who decide to live in a trailer as they circle the country. Sounds great, right? But this flick has many hitches along the way. Pun intended.

Nicky is talked into buying a trailer so that after the wedding they can have a home together since Nicky travels so much for work. They go to the trailer convention and Tacy falls in love with a beautiful, yellow, 40 foot, 3 ton trailer that costs way over budget. But the bride-to-be insists, and after Nicky's pocket book is drained, they are the proud owners of a house on wheels. After the wedding, Tacy and Nicky are on their way!

I want this dress for my wedding. Seriously! This is the dress I have been looking for. Why can't I find one like it?

"Um, Tacy, do we really need all this stuff?"

First stop: a cute little trailer park with trimmed greens and a sparkling pool. If trailer parks looked like this, we would all want to buy ourselves a trailer! Nicky goes to lift his new bride through the doorway when...

..the other "trailorites" see them and think Tacy is injured her ankle. Neighbors to the rescue!

They wrap her foot up and slip her a sleeping pill. Oh well for sexy time on their wedding night! Nicky finds his trailer has turned into the life of the party as all the trailorites hang out while Tacy sleeps away.

The next morning they book it out of there for some peace and quiet. Tacy suggests they find a place in the forest. This sounds just fine until they hit a bump and get stuck, just in time for rain. Plus no hook up for gas or electricity.

Three days in without a wedding dinner and Tacy thinks she'll cook while Nicky drives to save some time. I love this scene. She is trying to toss her Cesar salad while the trailer is in motion and the whole idea falls apart. The fiancee didn't like this one bit. He gets frustrated when movie plots are so obviously not going to work!

"Is din din ready yet?"

Along the way, Tacy has been collecting rocks from each place they visit so when they do get a home they can line the walkway with them. These are some big rocks and they start to weigh the trailer down. She also accumulates some jarred fruits for the road and they trailer starts to look like an episode of Hoarders until Nicky tells her to throw it all out. They are going up a mountain the next day!

Tacy decides she has a better plan, and it doesn't include throwing anything away. Nicky also gives her a chance to drive the trailer, a feat that Nicky has stressed over himself the whole time they have owned the thing. Tacy does a great job but is too relaxed for Nicky's taste and they start to quarrel.

The next day brings the mountain, at 8,000 feet elevation!

The honeymoon phase seems over as the longer they own the trailer the more problems they have. Can the marriage last? Will they have to sell the trailer?

This film is so adorable. I love the costumes, I want the trailer, and you can't beat the chemistry between the two. This was the 3rd of 4 movies they would do together.

Almost "The Women"

My good friend Mr. Tiny over at Wacky Tacky loaned me his copy of "The Opposite Sex" starring June Allyson and Dolores Gray. I was hesitant. I knew this film was a remake of the greatest film ever made, "The Women" but would it live up? Would it suck so bad I would have to return the film without watching the second half?

The beginning started out fine. We meet our ladies at Sydney's, the hair salon where women beautify and salon workers gossip. Just like in "The Women". We're off to a good start. Mrs. Fowler (Dolores Gray)learns that BFF Kay's husband is cheating. Oh what news! She finds her other BFF Edith (Joan Blondell) to spread the word.

The mistress is dance girl Crystal Allen (Joan Collins) and what a dish. Hubby is the shows producer and Kay soon learns via salon girl. Meanwhile, all Kay's friends have told everyone but her.

Notice Kay's hubby is no other than Leslie Nielsen. What a fox!

Unlike "The Women", TOS has men in it. At first I was anti, but it suits this film well. I like better to imagine what their husbands look like when watching the 1939 film, but it doesn't hurt in this film to see what the males look like.

The night Kay finds out about her cheating man is the same night as their ten year anniversary party. Kay plays if off and doesn't let on, but we see her reminisce about meeting her husband back when she was a night club singer and things were good.

Once the cat is out of the bag Kay finally runs head on with Crystal. This film version is sassier and at the end of their scene together Crystal gets slapped!

Kay's dress in this scene is my favorite in the film.

Before June slapped Joan, director David Miller told Joan not to back away and that Kay would only pretend to slap her. He told June to let her have it because Joan would back away. Sneaky, sneaky! The result is great! Joan's earring even falls off and Joan was mad at June for days thinking she slapped her on purpose!

Once the drama is over it is off to Reno for Kay. Just like in "The Women" she meets to gals on the train, Gloria (Ann Miller) and the Countess (Agnes Moorehead). Oh amour amour! Buck Winston picks them up as he helps out on the "divorce ranch". The gals are smitten and some are looking for their next husband! Charlotte Greenwood plays the ranch owner. This is her last film role after a 40 year career. I tried to find a picture but no luck.

Sylvia turns up after she learns that Mr. Fowler is stepping out with a lovely lady. Turns out it is someone they know! Cue in cat fight...

Meanwhile Crystal has married Kay's unhappy ex and gets her see-thru bathtub just like Joan Crawford did. (Although I like Crawford's better, naturally). She is now seeing Buck Winston while at the same time as another friend. These girls get around!

The finale of this film is a bit different than the original, but I very much liked it. It was bitchy-er than the original, and who doesn't love some girl on girl war games?

The original will always be the best, but I surprisingly enjoyed this one as well. It was as if the Orange County Housewives got together and remade this film. Much cattier, more dirty looks from across the room. The cast was pretty well put together and each character still had their flare. If you have not see "The Women", go see it first, and afterwards see this one to compare for yourself!

It's the season to be busy. Between starting a new job, sewing and crafting gifts, and shopping I have had little time to sit down with an oldie film. As I was cleaning up after hosting a party and threw on TCM to get my fix. Five minutes in to this film and I stopped cleaning and sat down to watch this cute flick.

Victor Moore plays Aloysius, a homeless free loader who every year moves into a rich man's mansion when he leaves for warmer winters. He wears his clothes, sleeps in his bed and is nice enough to dust the furniture and check the light bulbs for the guy. Soon he meets Bill, who just got thrown out of his place and is looking for an apartment. Aloysius offers "his place" and the two becomes roommates. Soon after they catch a "thief" who is actually the rich mans daughter Trudy (played by Gale Storm). They think she is taking a coat which is really hers. She ran away from school and conceals her identity and starts to live there herself.

Trudy has a thing for Bill but so far he isn't into her. Before you know it, there are several families living in the house, even a baby! Trudy gets dolled up for Bill and he finally gives her a second look.

"Aaaarn't I sexy now?"

Trudy's dad and the home owner comes looking for Trudy once he learns she skipped out on school. She tells him the story and begs father to pretend to be homeless and live in the house too so she can get closer to Bill. Loving father agrees. What is funny is that Aloysius starts treating father like a maid and makes him do all the chores!

When father gets fed up and tells Trudy he is going to the cops, Trudy calls in mom, who has been separated from father for quite a while. She starts to cook and everyone gets ready for Christmas time. A business deal comes up for Bill and father plays a hand in it to make Bill move far far away. He wants Trudy to go back to school and all she wants is to marry Bill.

Things looks like they might work out when Bill gets the chance to pursue his dreams and Father and Mother start to reconcile. They celebrate Christmas Eve dinner together with the whole gang. When Father makes a business deal that ruins Jim's chances at success, he breaks up with Trudy to take a job in Bolivia. Trudy is pissed and so is Mother realizing that Father will never change.

In the end, everything works out. It is a Christmas movie after all...

While watching Moon Over Miami for the fourth time in two days (don't judge me)I asked the fiancee, "What ever happened to tap dancing in the movies?" He had no answer. After thinking through Don Ameche's singing I started to get peeved. I mean, how can someone not find tap dancing sequences in films entertaining if not a spectacle of total amazement? When did movie goers wake up one day and not insist that motion pictures include tap dancing in their films anymore? Instead of starting Moon Over Miami over again (it was raining after all)I got on Google and asked the very same question the fiancee couldn't find an answer for. Up came a link for "Happy Feet" and "Chicago". So in modern films if I want to watch tap dancing it either has to be through cartoon or a "period piece" film. Are these my only options? Guess that is why I love the oldies and why the saying, "They don't make em like they used to." is really true. So lets take a look at some fantastic tap by some fantastically talented oldies and smile knowing that at least once upon a time this form of dance thrived and say a thank you to DVD players for allowing us to watched them over and over again.

Kat Hepburn's 8th film was a quirky picture called, "Alice Adams". Directed by George Stevens, AA follows wanna-be socialite Alice as she deals with family drama and upscale men.

Alice's lives at home with her trouble maker brother, nagging mother, and doormat father. Alice is dying to be apart of the social scene but without any family money she is having a hard time. She does get the chance to attend a lavish party where she spots a rich friend's beau, Arthur (a young and dashing Fred MacMurray). Alice is hooked.

Arthur likes the look of her too and when she is out looking for a job, Arthur sees her and they have a stroll. At this time she decides to pretend she is rich too. Alice convinces Arthur that she was just at the office looking for a new Secretary for father. He takes her home but they are only allowed to sit on the porch. No way is Arthur going inside to meet the folks and see the grubby house!

Meanwhile, father has been sick and thankfully the boss has held is job at the drugstore. Brother has a gambling problem and mother is tired of Alice not getting involved with the rich crowd and bitches at father about getting a better job. Father and mother yell back and forth, and father throws out the word "dang" a lot, so you know he means business.

Alice and Arthur get pretty serious, I mean, they are dating for like a whole month and all. Arthur dumps his other gal pal and Alice's mother insists he come over for din din. Oh what a stress! How can the family fake money? They hire a cook/maid and straighten the house. Arthur is finally allowed past the front door.

"All I want is to marry up!"

Dinner does not go as planned. It's blazing hot and they serve soup. The maid chews gum really loud and father complains about eating brussel sprouts. Arthur is a good sport and the only real person at the table. He just wants to be with Alice. Alice is too busy making excuses about the food to eat. Brother comes home and a huge fight starts. With the family yelling at each other, Alice and Arthur go back to the porch.

Alice convinces Arthur he should dump her and runs back inside to join the fight. After some things get cleared up, Alice returns to the porch to collect her thoughts. Will Arthur still be waiting? Are her chances with him over? Guess you're gonna have to watch the movie to find out! (Ok, so you know the ending. Like any oldie film is going to end with Katharine Hepburn alone on the porch with a dysfunctional poor family. I mean, really.)

Philippe Halsman was one of the great portrait photographers of his time. He worked with LIFE magazine and Salvador Dali, but his best work, in my opinion, was his Jump series. Politicians and artists, rulers and business owners, they all jumped for Halsman. But being a film nerd, the actors and actresses are my favorite.

I just finished reading Kate Remembered, by A. Scott Berg. Published in 2003, the year of Katharine's death, this book is beautifully written by author as well as decades long friend to Kat. Scott writes not only about her life, but about their time together as friends. As a biography written by someone who knew Kat to the fullest, you learn about her opinions on almost everything (naturally), as well as details about her life including Howard and Spencer that she normally didn't share with the public.

I must say I was sad finishing this, not only because it was such a good read, but because at the end, you get to know her a little bit closer, and understand how much she lived it up.

On November 29th, the Kerry Taylor Auction House in London will be hosting a "Passion For Fashion" auction. Items range from twenties gowns to recent designer threads, but the most exciting items

(at least to an oldie film nerd like myself) are two pieces worn by Liz Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. Audrey's being the most thrilling.

For around $96,000 (projected) you can own Audrey's Edith Head designed dress shown in Roman Holiday and then altered for Audrey to wear as she excepted her first and only Oscar for the same picture.

On a side note, the dress measures 32" bust, 24" waist, which seemed larger than I though Audrey would be.

Next up is Elizabeth Taylor's fab Balenciaga gown worn in 1964.

This year, Halloween came and went fast. As usual, the fiancee and I attended my good friends Amber and Bob's amazing annual Halloween bash. So what did the oldie film nerd dress up as for Halloweenie?

Baby Jane Hudson of course. A few people didn't recognize me with a blonde wig, one person thought I was Pollyanna, and several people started singing, "I'm writing a letter to Daddy..."

Overall I must say I was pretty jazzed about my efforts.

"The Two Mrs. Carrolls" 1947

In the fourth of ten films Ginger and Fred would do, "Top Hat" could be one of the best. This film has the most dance sequences the pair would ever do in a film and grossed over 3 million dollars.

Fred plays Jerry, an infamous American dancer in England to work for silly man and show producer Horace, (Edward Everett Horton). While working on a dance number, sleeping beauty downstairs (Ginger)calls the hotel manager and complains. Horace goes downstairs, Ginger aka Dale goes up to give the loud man a piece of her mind.

Jerry is in love and Dale is annoyed. He promises her to be quiet and once she goes back down stairs Jerry does a "quiet" dance for her using the sand of an ashtray. All fall asleep.

The next day, Jerry sends Dale flowers from her "silent admirer". Nice touch Jerry. Here we see Lucille Ball with a one liner part. How I love Lucy before she was big! We learn that Dale as a sugar daddy already who in my opinion is gay.

Dale is still mad at Jerry even after a personal apology. She is going to the stable to ride when what do you know, Jerry hitches the buggy and drives her there himself.

Dale is still not impressed.

Jerry waits around and when the rain comes, he tries to rescue Dale. After some song and dance, Dale gives in and likes Jerry.

The next day, the big mix up occurs. Jerry is staying in Horace's hotel room. Horace is married to Madge who is away in Italy (we'll get to that later). Dale thinks Jerry is Horace and married! Boy is she mad! She smacks him right across the face in public! Jerry is confused. Dale and boy toy head off to Italy to hang with Madge who are friends. Jerry is sad, but the show must go on!

Jerry finds out Dale is in Italy and goes after her. The sets for Italy are amazing. They took up two studios at RKO and were the largest sets constructed up until 1935. Wow!

Dale tells Madge that her hubby whom she thinks is Fred, is getting fresh with her! Little does she know soon enough that the mix up will be fixed up and her and Jerry will innamori (that's Italian for "fall in love")

"My hubby did what?"

They dance cheek to cheek and the rest is history. Ginger's costumes are fabulous. This was the first film specifically written with Ginger and Fred in mind.

"Imitation Of Life" 1959

Do you like soap operas? Do you like 10 different plots wrapped into one picture? Than this is the film for you. Starring Lana Turner, John Gavin, and Juanita Moore, this 2 hour film is all about drama. Get ready...

Lana plays Lora, a struggling actress who has a young daughter, Susie. They are poor and living in a small apartment when Lora looses Susie at the beach. When she finds her, she is hanging out with Annie (Juanita Moore), a black gal with a white looking daughter, Sarah Jane. They befriend each other and in the process meet Rock Hudson look alike Steve(John Gavin).

"Wait until we are older, we will be train wrecks!"

Lora invites Annie and Sarah Jane to live with them as a "maid" but not really because Lora can't pay her. So this weird friend/employer relationship starts. Sarah Jane has serious identity issues and doesn't want to be seen as black. Which she isn't, because she looks white. Sarah Jane and Susie become good friends, as do Annie and Lora.

Lora gets a few small modeling gigs, but is broke and times are tough. Weirdly after meeting for about 2 minutes, Steve comes by and visits. The children are so excited, even though they don't know Steve at all. He asks Lora out and she says yes.

Lora and Steve go out, but on date two she blows him off for a potential acting job. She lies to get a meeting with the agent who calls her bluff but agrees to get her jobs with one condition...she becomes his "lady". Disgusted, Lora turns him down.

"Get naked for an audition?! Hell to the no!"

Annie is having trouble with Sarah Jane. SJ doesn't want anyone to know her momma is black and gets embarrassed when Annie comes to her school. She runs away and we see what issues Sarah Jane is going though.

During date night take two, Lora again blows Steve off when the same agent calls again for a job. Steve tells Lora he is in love with her and that she must quit her dreams of acting to marry him. This doesn't go over well and their short romance is over. Oh the drama!

The agent works his magic without Lora having to give it up and we see Lora become a famous and successful theater actor over the course of a decade. We slow down and take a look at her life after she is wealthy. Annie is still her friend/maid and Susie is now away at school.

Susie wishes her momma would spend more time with her and looks to Annie as more of a mother figure. Sarah Jane has a secret boyfriend who is white and is always arguing with her mother. Steve comes by with his girlfriend to see one of Lora's recent hit plays and Lora is all over him. They start to hang out.

(Who knows what happend to the gf!)

Lora gets a chance to work on a film and asks Steve to spend time with Susie. Susie is sad because she wishes her mother would hang out with her more. Sarah Jane goes away to work at a library. Annie finds out she isn't really working at a library but as a burlesque dancer in the city! Annie confronts her and a big fight ensues. Sarah Jane wants nothing to do with her ever again.

More drama!

Annie is sick and sad that her daughter never wants to see her again. Susie falls in love with Steve just in time for mother to marry him. Talk about awkward.

In the end, Annie kicks the bucket and has the longest death in film history followed by the longest funeral procession in film history. The fiancee and I were laughing.

As crazy and as long as this film is, it is actually really good. So much goes on you feel like you are watching four different movies. I would defiantly recommend this flick for anyone who has 2 hours to kill!

"Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman", 1958

In 1932 MGM did a film showcasing real circus features in a strange but entertaining picture called "Freaks". Hans and Frieda are little people in the show and are married (played by real life siblings Harry and Daisy Earles). Hans falls for a regular sized gal, the trapeze artist, Cleopatra. Cleo flirts back but only as a joke, and Hans forgets he is married. Frieda is devastated.

Meanwhile, sweet animal tamer, Venus is dumped by mean lion tamer, Hercules, naturally. She is sad and he moves on to Hans' love, Cleo. We also get a look at some of the 'freaks" in the circus.

Venus stars to fancy the clown, Phroso. Cleo finds out Hans has a fortune so Cleo and Hercules devise a plan to get Hans and her hitched, then kill him. Hans tells Frieda he wants Cleo instead. She is heartbroken.

Back at the circus, the bearded lady gives birth, the siamese twins both get engaged and Hans and Cleo marry. But when Cleo kisses real love Hercules in front of Hans, he is pissed!

The "freaks" don't really like Cleo but decide to accept her. They drink wine and chant, "One of us!" Cleo is angry and yells at them, calling them freaks! She will never be one of them! This marriage is doomed from the start!

That night she starts to poison Hans. Little does she know that Hans is on to her and has his "freak" friends ready to get back at her.

In the end, the good people get the good life and the bad people get the..well you know how it goes. Cleo's future is not bright, but you need to watch and see what happens to her in the end.

Poor Daisy...Joan Crawford stars on this film noir pic about a working woman torn between two men(Dana Andrews and Henry Fonda). Daisy is dating married lawyer Dan (Andrews). When Dan breaks plans with Daisy again, she says they are through, but Dan talks her into changing her mind.

Daisy goes on a date with Peter (Fonda) a widow who has just returned from war and is on the creepy side. After one night together he tells Daisy he loves her. Her response? "Uh, What?!" She enjoys his company but would rather be with Dan.

After her date, she tells Dan how he is still her number one man. Peter never calls but decides to stalk her from afar.

Check out what movie is playing!

Meanwhile, Dan returns home and we get to see how fun his home life is. Dan's wife is a drag and she knows he isn't interested in her. He takes the kids side on everything, so his wife then smacks the kids around. Nice.

Peter finally convinces Daisy to go on another date and within a few minutes, they are married. They move to the coast and we learn that not only is Peter a bit messed up in the head from war trauma, but that in reality, neither one of them really loves each other. Strange.

Dan finds out and is sad. He goes away on a trial and gets beat up in the process. When he returns, he makes a move on newlywed Daisy who won't have it. Dan's wife finds out and wants a divorce. Dan calls together Daisy and her man for a "meeting" to tell them both he is in love with Daisy but nothing happened when he tried to feel her up. Peter is weirdly OK with this. To boot he shares he is in a bitter divorce case for the kiddies.

Awkward.

Daisy agrees to help Dan out and take the stand. Peter tells Daisy if you want to leave me, just say the word and I'll be gone. The trial starts and Daisy must take Dan's side so he can get the children, even though his estranged wife is still beating them during the trial.

Daisy can't take it anymore and flees to the coast. Dan and Peter meet up and together go to Daisy to figure out who gets her. She takes a car ride and has a nasty spill.

After she walks home in the snow, the boys are waiting for her. She doesn't want either one of them but eventually one suitor gets to stay.

I must say, although the pickle Daisy is in is strange and far fetched, (I mean come on, who gets married and then agrees to let her ex lover come together to find out who she really wants?)you really never know who she is going to pick. This film is considered on of Joan's best and is the first "woman film noir" film made.

1. Born to a wealthy family in Ukraine in 1905.

2.Wanted to be a theater actor, but to get his father's approval, he went to law school first.

3.Decided to try directing after he started to go bald.

4.Was summoned by Fox to come to American to direct.

5.Taught directing and acting at Yale.

6. Dabbled in acting in roles such as "Stalag 17" and as Mr. Freeze in the 60's series of "Batman".

7. Had an open marriage until his divorce in 1946.

8.Had a long affair with Dorothy Dandridge.

9.Worked on films, "Laura", "Fallen Angel", "Daisy Kenyon" to name a few, and was nominated for two Oscars,

although never won.

10. Died of cancer in 1986.
